Coursework

This page includes all of my courses that I have taken throughout my years at Clemson University. These courses are categorized in different sections and through these classes, I've gained essential skills, explored new perspectives, and sharpened my critical thinking abilities. 

Language Courses:

SPAN 1010: Elementary Spanish
A solid introduction to Spanish focusing on basic grammar, vocabulary, and simple conversational skills. The course laid the groundwork for understanding sentence structure and pronunciation, though it moved quickly for beginners.

SPAN 1020: Elementary Spanish II
This course expanded on SPAN 1010, diving deeper into grammar and practical speaking skills. I felt more confident speaking in everyday situations, but the pace required consistent practice.

​

SPAN 2010: Intermediate Spanish I
A transition from basic to intermediate Spanish, where the emphasis shifted towards more complex sentence structures and cultural nuances. It was challenging but rewarding as my comprehension improved significantly.

​

SPAN 2020: Intermediate Spanish II
Focused heavily on reading and writing, this course pushed me to apply my language skills to real-world contexts. I particularly enjoyed the class discussions and debates in Spanish, which sharpened my critical thinking in the language.

SPAN 3020: Intermediate Spanish Grammar and Composition
A deep dive into grammar, this course focused on written accuracy. It was tough but helped me polish my writing, making my Spanish more sophisticated and formal.

​

SPAN 3050: Intermediate Spanish Conversation and Composition I
This course had a heavy focus on conversational fluency. The emphasis on speaking with peers was invaluable, although the composition part sometimes felt secondary to the spoken work.

​

SPAN 3060: Spanish Composition for Business
One of the most practical courses, it emphasized business-related vocabulary and formal writing. I felt it gave me a unique skill set, especially for international business contexts.

​

(IP) SPAN 3160: Spanish for International Business I
Currently enrolled, this course integrates business and language in a way that’s highly relevant to a globalized workforce. I’m learning industry-specific vocabulary and how to navigate Spanish-speaking business environments.

 

Culture and Literature Courses:

SPAN 3040: Introduction to Hispanic Literary Forms
A wonderful introduction to Hispanic literature, this course broadened my cultural understanding while helping me develop analytical skills. Some texts were difficult, but the insights gained were well worth the effort.

SPAN 3070: The Hispanic World: Spain
I gained a deeper understanding of Spanish history and culture. The course was highly informative, but the workload was intense, especially with the required readings.

​

SPAN 4030: Spanish American Women's Writers
A fascinating dive into the works of Spanish-American women authors, exploring themes like gender, identity, and culture. This was one of my favorite courses, as it sparked a lot of meaningful discussions.

 

General Education: 

ENGL 1030: Accelerated Composition
This course sharpened my writing skills, pushing me to write more effectively and efficiently. The workload was manageable, but the feedback was crucial for growth.

MATH 1010: Essentials of Math for the Informed Society
A practical math course designed for everyday applications. I appreciated the real-world connections, though the content was fairly straightforward.

​

COMM 2500: Public Speaking
A transformative course that improved my confidence in speaking to an audience. The structure was clear, and I left feeling much more comfortable with public presentations.

​

POSC 1020: Introduction to International Relations
A broad overview of global politics, this course introduced complex concepts that were well explained. I found it intellectually stimulating, though keeping up with current events was essential.

​

SOC 2010: Introduction to Sociology
A solid introduction to sociology that covered fundamental theories and concepts. It opened my eyes to the ways society shapes individual behavior, though the material could be dense at times.

​

HIST 1010: History of the United States
An engaging look at U.S. history from the colonial period to modern times. The course was straightforward, though some sections felt rushed due to the broad timeline.

​

GEOL 1010: Physical Geology
An interesting science course that covered Earth’s processes and structures. While some concepts were complex, the hands-on lab work helped cement my understanding.

​

GEOL 1030: Physical Geology Lab
Complemented the lecture course with hands-on experiments and fieldwork. It was engaging and made the theoretical content come to life.

​

HIST 3700: Medieval History
A deep dive into medieval Europe, covering political, social, and cultural developments. The content was dense but fascinating for history buffs like me.

 

Global Challenges:

EDF 4800: Digital Media and Learning
This course explored how digital tools are transforming education. It offered practical insights into integrating technology into learning environments, which was useful for anyone interested in education or instructional design.

 

Required Electives:

ELEC 0001: Transfer Elective
A transfer elective that fulfilled a requirement, but didn’t heavily impact my academic path.

ENGL 1999: Transfer Elective
Similar to ELEC 0001, this was a general elective that helped meet my degree requirements.

​

HLTH 2500: Health and Fitness
An overview of personal health and fitness, which was practical and informative. It encouraged me to adopt healthier habits, though some content felt basic.

​

MATH 1990: Problem Solving in Mathematics
A problem-solving-oriented math course that emphasized critical thinking. I enjoyed the challenge of applying math to real-world situations.

​

POSC 3020: State and Local Government
A focused look at state and local politics. The course provided practical insights into the inner workings of government, though the material was occasionally dry.

 

Minor Requirements:

PRTM 3420: Introduction to Tourism and Event Management
An introduction to the tourism industry, with a focus on event planning and management. The course was engaging and offered a practical overview of the field.

PRTM 3450: Tourism Management
This course dove deeper into the business side of tourism, including marketing and financial aspects. I found it highly relevant and practical for anyone interested in the tourism industry.

​

PRTM 4470: Perspective of International Travel
A fascinating exploration of global tourism trends. It tied in well with my interest in international business and offered insight into the cultural impacts of travel.

​

PRTM 3470: Sport Tourism and Events
An intersection of sports and tourism, this course was perfect for anyone interested in event management within the sports industry. It was a unique and engaging class.

PRTM 3920: Special Event Management
A practical, hands-on course that focused on planning and executing large-scale events. I gained valuable project management skills that will be useful in my career

​

Study Abroad:

SPAN 4090: Advanced Spanish 
This course deepened my understanding of Spanish linguistics and research methods. It was essential for refining my analytical skills and applying theoretical frameworks to language studies.

​

SPAN 4110: Advanced Spanish
A challenging yet rewarding course that focused on advanced grammar, writing, and oral communication. It significantly improved my fluency and confidence in academic and professional Spanish.

​

SPAN 3130: Survey of Spanish Literature I
An insightful overview of Spanish literary history, from medieval texts to the Golden Age. It provided a strong foundation in literary analysis and exposed me to influential works and authors.

​

SPAN 4350: Spanish Culture and Atlantic Spain 
This course explored Spain’s historical and cultural connections with the Atlantic world. It was fascinating to study Spain’s global influence through art, literature, and historical events.

SPAN 4070: Spanish Women Directors
A thought-provoking class that examined the contributions of female filmmakers in Spain. It tied into my interest in gender studies and film, offering critical perspectives on representation in cinema.
